Alas,
this beautiful 18th Century button has been made into a brooch by cutting
off the shank and glueing on a fastener.
The button is made of a disc of milk glass, with the design painted on.
The disc is cracked. It is backed with a disc of mother-of -pearl, into
which the shank was inserted.
There is a clear glass
cover and the button is held together by a thin collett of gilded metal.
