Collections
of button images
We have
on the site an increasing collection of images of buttons submitted
by members. We invite you to peruse them.
We would like to add more images to the site, with as much relevant
information as can be supplied. Submit them by email to Eric
the Web, who will be delighted to add them to our collection,
and discuss with you what information you would like to see.
Eric the Web is grateful to the suppliers of the button images
and details below.
The full
beauty of a button can be seen when the image is accurate and
displayed at greater than life size as here
or here.
If you wish to send images, images of high resolution look better.
If using a camera, remember that you must typically focus from
very close (usually called "macro" or "supermacro" on the camera),
and that being so close, the camera (and you!) may obscure the
light.
If using a scanner, use a very high resolution to give images
of a size comparable with cameras, say 4 megapixels or 2000
pixels square. My old Epson scanner has (among others) 800 and
1600 dots-per-inch resolutions. Always put a thin film of clear
plastic (e.g. an unused overhead projector transparent film)
to protect the scanner glass from scratching with sharp buttons.
The
Society's library
The Society's
Librarian, Mr Conrad Sheward, details on Welcome
page, is currently preparing a catalogue of material held
by The British Button Society. This will be included on the
Society's website in due course. Please contact Conrad with
specific enquiries.
British Butterscotch Bakelite. The June &
September 2007 issues contained an article on British Butterscotch
Bakelite buttons by Jocelyn Howells. The first
and second parts are reproduced
here as PDF files. [See here
